Dear Friends,

Like you most of you out there, It is with shock and great sadness that I, from the comfort of my London home have been watching the devastating events in Japan. My deepest condolences go out to the families of the dead and injured. There is so much work to be done retrieving bodies and clearing the devastation in the tsunami struck regions. But I know the resilience and the heart and determination of the Japanese nation and I have no doubt that they will overcome.
I hope to do the best that I can to raise funds for the cause and with the help of my friends to uplift the spirits of the Japanese people with our music.

Peace & Love
Bluey (INCOGNITO)

To all my friends in Japan,

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all for the ongoing tragedy you are experiencing from the earthquake and Tsunami.

Your courage has inspired me and I'm sure the rest of the world in the face of such great adversity. This courage that you display does not surprise me. I've had the pleasure and the honor of playing my music in Japan many times, about 30 or more trips. Every time I've been in your country the people have been kind, thoughtful, sensitive, hard working and very courageous. I know you will get through these very hard challenges that are in front of you. Your strength is always an inspiration to me, to my friends in the United States and to the rest of the world.

I am scheduled to return to the Blue Note Japan this June with Randy Brecker, Richard Bona and Dennis Chambers. The dates are June 5 in Yokohama, June 6 at the Cotton Club, June 8-11 in Tokyo and June 12 in Nagoya. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone. The Blue Note Japan is one of my favorite places to play in the world. Much, much love.

Sincerely,
Mike Stern

Dear Friends of Japan,

I share with all the people of the United States your pain and sorrow you are now enduring. We have been receiving the dramatic and tragic news reports of the massive and historic earth quake, tsunami, and now the damage you have to your nuclear power plants. We share in your grief of the enormous loss of life and displacement of your people. I will pray for the country's fast recovery and will do everything in our power to help you. The Japanese jazz fan is the most important supporter of my music, and I am always grateful for the years you have stood by my side. As you know I will be traveling to your Blue Note clubs this coming June. I hope to see you there and we can try to help your healing process with our music and in any other way possible.
-On behalf of the American jazz musician community, I can say that we love you madly, and you are in our hearts.

With the power of love and music,

Yours truly,
Ron Carter

My name is Dennis Mackrel and I am the leader of the Count Basie Orchestra.
Over the past several days, we have all been watching the tragic events that have been taking place in Japan.
The Basie Orchestra has been performing in Japan for over 40 years and in that time, we have developed a very close relationship with the Japanese people.

Although I speak primarily for the members of the Count Basie Orchestra, I‚m sure that I also speak for anyone who has had the pleasure of traveling to your country and experienced your kindness and generosity first hand as we have. We are deeply saddened by what has happened and you are all in our thoughts and in our prayers.

I am not a president or a world leader of any kind. I‚m only a musician and although I don‚t know why bad things sometimes happen to good people, I do know that you are a strong and resilient people and that with God‚s help, you will make it through these dark times and be much stronger for it.

I also know that music not only has the power to inspire those who listen to it, but it also has the power to calm and sooth the mind and heal the spirit. I hope that in some way, our music will help you through these dark times.

In the mean time, please be strong and know that people all over the world are with you in spirit, we are praying for you, and we will do whatever we can do to help you get through these dark days.

Domo Arigato.

Count Basie Orchestra

"During my career I have visited Japan countless times and I have always considered it to be a home away from home. I was deeply saddened and distraught over the destruction that took so many innocent lives. In light of the difficulties faced by the Japanese people, I offer my prayers and condolences. I look forward to my next visit in the near future, and I am confident that Japan will soon be stronger than ever."

McCoy Tyner

TO MY BELOVED JAPANESE FRIENDS:

I WISH THIS ALL WILL END SOON AND A NEW SPRING COME TO SHINE ON THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE OF JAPAN.
THE WHOLE WORLD SIT AND PRAY FOR YOU.

WITH ALL MY LOVE.
NICOLA CONTE

Dear Blue Note family,

It is like seeing a good neighbor in distress and not being able to do anything about it. I began performing in Japan in the 1960's and feel very close to my friends there. My wife Jan and I and our associates would like you to know that our hearts and prayers are with you and I look forward to bringing my new electric group to Blue Note Tokyo in August.

Sincere regards,
Ramsey Lewis

To my dear Japanese fans! My heart goes out to you. I am devastated by this great tragedy that has plagued your people and feel personally invested because Japan has become a home away from home for me. What is overwhelming, however, is the bravery and honour that you exhibit, even now, during this unbelievably trying time. People putting their lives at risk to help total strangers, taking upon themselves the efforts of starting to rebuild cities and communities. I sincerely hope that the worst is over and that the reconstruction process can commence. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I cannot wait to be with you, in person, as soon as possible. Sincerely, with great admiration and affection,

Sophie Milman
